Basic function and scope of responsibilities:

The cash application specialist will be responsible for day-to-day accounting operations concerning the donations received by Family Legacy.  In this role, you will be responsible for applying donations within the contribution software and interacting in a “customer service” role with our donors.  To succeed in this position, you must be able to learn quickly and jump in without being asked, possess extreme attention to detail, superb communication skills, and a “can-do” attitude. 

Principal Responsibilities:

  • Ensure timely and accurate application of payments to contribution software
  • Handle concerns from donors via e-mails and phone calls in a friendly, accurate, and professional manner, supporting the ministry’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Generate, process, and analyze routine and customized reports as needed for other departments and ministry leaders and to accurately track financial information
  • Research and resolve exception issues with credit cards, ACH transactions, and returned checks.
  • Record and deposit donor checks and electronic payments, including researching designation when necessary and reconciling the contribution software with the bank
  • Process and record donations from third-party partners such as donor-advised funds
  • Act as liaison between donors and employers with regard to matching gifts.
  • Set up donation campaigns in the contribution software that are consistent with fund accounting parameters used in the accounting software
  • Provide assistance during audits, including running reports, researching transactions, and providing requested documentation
  • Take lead on processing and distributing year-end contribution statements to donors
  • Work closely with other departments to successfully meet the goals of the ministry (Sponsorships, Development, Human Resources, I/T, Data Insights, etc.…)
  • Additional duties as assigned
  • Full-time position – 40 hours per week. Monday – Wednesday in the office, and Thursday – Friday option to work remotely or in the office

Training, Skills, Knowledge, and/or Experience

  • 2+ years of cash application and/or accounts receivable experience
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to multi-task and prioritize
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • General math skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including the ability to operate computerized accounting and spreadsheet programs
  • High degree of accuracy, attention to detail, and confidentiality
  • Excellent data entry skills
  • Demonstrates a sense of urgency and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to interact with diplomacy and tact amid influential constituents and diverse groups
  • Ability to work independently and contribute to broader team objectives
